Here is what we will be up to in our subjects this week:

Math: Quiz on Friday

We are beginning multiplication and using bar models with multiplication. We will continue to return to word problems and use the ABE strategy with the multiplication word problems.

A-Answer sentence

B-Bar model

E-Equation

Math homework: workbook pages each night along with Rocket Math.

Science:

In Science we are learning about habitats and changes! We read together in our Core Knowledge science books and are working on answering the chapter's "big question" in complete sentences. This is a way that we practice our writing skills and the skill of being attentive readers.

History:

We are beginning our unit on Ancient Rome! We complete a "big question" which summarizes our learning over the reading. They are learning to write diligently and restating the question in our answer.

One of the key things third graders learn this year is STUDY SKILLS! They have a study guide packet to help support them in building studying habits and how to prepare for a test well!

Grammar: Wednesday night Home Connection and Adjective & Adverb Quiz on Thursday

In Grammar, we are learning about parts of speech, writing in a complete sentence, restating a question, and finding text evidence.

For Grammar homework, you will have a home connection worksheet this week. Use the purple Grammar notebook to support your scholar's memory and sharing of learning.

Writing:

In Writing, we are working on writing in complete sentences. Your student should be practicing creating sentence stems for their sentences by restating the question in their answer. We took detailed notes on how to do this last week in our grammar notebooks. Now we are putting it into practice through writing exercises and worksheets. You will see some of these come home soon!

Literature: Character Quiz this week

In Literature, we are beginning Pinocchio by Carol Collodi. We will continue to look for figurative language and virtues as we read. Pinocchio will spur great discussion on doing the right thing and the importance of listening and having supportive friendships. Continue the great conversations at home with your scholar!

Please obtain a copy of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. Here is the copy of the book with an Amazon link.

Spalding: Test Friday over 20 new words!

We had a 50 word assessment to see how well the scholars use their phonograms in other words. We will learn 10 words on Tuesday, Wednesday, and review on Thursday. The test over the 20 words will be on Friday.

Homework: Make sure your scholar writes one time with rules and markings and the next time with just the words. This should be dictated out loud similar to how the test will be on Fridays.

Reading/Keyboarding:

During Reading class, students read independently or in small groups with the teachers, or we read together a chapter of our Language Arts books.

For reading homework, students should read aloud to a parent or adult for 20 minutes, and the student should write a one-sentence summary of what they learned or what happened in the material they read. The Read-Aloud logs are due each Monday for a grade.

Remind your scholar to make sure to use the correct typing posture :)

Thank you for reading!

With wonder for our world and love for your students,
