Q1W5-W6, Sept. 5-16

Dear Parents,

We are almost finished with week 5 and about to start week 6! We are looking forward to a great second half of the quarter and are excited to announce the location of 3rd grade's field trip this year!

 ~ FIELD TRIP ~

We will be heading to the Witte Museum on Thursday, November 10, for educational and meaningful experience!

The field trip fee will cover the cost of student tickets and transportation. We are asking that parents pay $20 per student enrolled in K-6, with a family maximum of $60. Please click here to complete your students’ field trip payment, permission slip and lunch reservation form if requesting a lunch to be provided by the school.

We do have scholarships available. If paying the fee is a hardship for you, please submit the Field TripScholarship Request Form to rossanna.diazknack@greatheartsnorthernoaks.org

For the security of your children, if you plan to volunteer/chaperone at ANY school event, you MUST go to the PSO website and do these 3 things at least THREE weeks before the event:

                1. Submit a consent for a Background Check                                                                                        2. Download and Print FERPA Acknowledgment Form and PSO Confidentiality Agreement                 3. Watch the training video covering these subjects

It takes time to process through our district office for clearance. We need one every school year, regardless of if you completed one last year. If you have not submitted one for this year, you will be asked to remove your name from the sign- up list for the field trip. Once completed, send the forms to school in your child’s folder. If you have any questions, please contact Lorie Copeland, Marcy Mitchel, or Rebecca Danet.

Thank you! We will need some parent volunteers, but space is limited. We will send out a Sign-Up Genius for parent volunteers on October 17th at 5:30 pm. Thank you for your support.

Third grade began Typing Club last week. Your student has the option to continue the lessons at home, but it is not a requirement. They will be coming home with their username and website information in their agendas.

  • DO NOT MOVE YOUR VEHICLE IF CHILDREN ARE WITHIN ARMS LENGTH.
  • Students who arrive before 7:30 AM will be going out to recess and/or can get breakfast.
  • The school day starts at 7:50 AM. Please have students to the school with enough time to be unpacked and in their seats by 7:50 AM. Students who are not un packed or present in the classroom at 7:50am will receive a tardy. 3 tardies will result in a lunch detention. Students should go directly from morning recess to their classrooms so they can unpack in time for the day to start.
  • For any absences or late arrivals, contact the school AND the teacher.  If you are planning to pick your student up early or arrive late due to an appointment, please inform your student's teacher with ample notice and send a doctor's note with them the next day.
  • Students need to bring a water bottle daily.
  • 3rd grade has snack during Literature. If you choose to, please send your student with a nutritional snack.
  • Supplies Needed:
    • All students are expected to have a copy of the grade level Classics to Keep. They need this to follow along in Literature and to reread as needed. We started Little House on the Prairie week 1.
  • Students should be reading 20 minutes daily. Reading Logs are sent home Monday and will be a weekly homework grade. These logs are checked daily so please send to school in your student's take home folder. Students need to fill out their own reading logs.
  • Parents need to sign off on the reading log that their child read 20 minutes. Parents should sign behavior charts as well. Both will be in the Take Home Folder and checked daily by the teacher for completion.
